Wildlife & Cultural Safari — 8 days

Day 1 ~ Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport in the afternoon. Transport to Kia Lodge where you spend the remainder of the afternoon by the pool or at your leisure. Enjoy the beautiful landscaping. Dinner and overnight at Kia Lodge.

Day 2 ~ Leave early after breakfast for Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called "Africa's Eden" and the "8th Natural Wonder of the World." Within the crater rim, large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze while sleeping lions laze nearby in the sun. You will spend a full day in the crater, with a stop for a picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight on the crater rim at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 3 ~ Drive down to the Ndutu area of the southern Serengeti. This area of East Africa's savannah plains has attracted humans for millennia. The whole area is now colloquially known as the short grass plains and is the preferred habitat of hundreds of thousands (perhaps more than a million) of wildebeest. Visit Oldupai Gorge, where Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the hominoid remains of a 1.8 million-year-old skeleton of Australopithecus boisei, one of the distinct links of the human evolutionary chain. Additionally you will visit a Maasai Boma, an indigenous herding society with a rich and vibrant oral history. The day will end with a game drive around Ndutu. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge.

Day 4 ~ Morning and evening game drives in Ndutu area. Relaxation midday. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge.

Day 5 ~ Drive to Lake Eyasi and accompany the Hadzabe and Ndatoga people on a hunting-gathering walk. Small groups of Hadzabe people live around Lake Eyasi. Their language resembles the click languages of southern Africa. They live entirely off the bush and from hunting, generally small antelopes and baboons. The Ndatoga are a herding tribe and your tour will show you the village blacksmith and houses where they live. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Kisima Ngeda Lodge.

Day 6 ~ Depart for Tarangire National Park, an adventure playground for thousands of elephant that is also rich in birds of prey. Famous for its abundance of baobab trees, the park is the fourth largest in Tanzania at about 1,000 square miles. Game drive in the park. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Maramboi Tented Camp.

Day 7 ~ Morning and evening game drive at Tarangire National Park. Midday relaxation and/or nature walk to Lake Manyara. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Maramboi Tented Camp.

Day 8 ~ Return to Arusha after breakfast. Lunch in Arusha. Return to Kilimanjaro International Airport for departure or transfer to trek(s).
